Holy Eucharist
"The Eucharist is the "source and summit of the Christian Life" (Vatican II). The other sacraments, and all Church ministries and works of the apostolate are bound with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ Himself." CCC 1324
Preparation
Children of the parish usually receive the sacrament of the First Eucharist at the end of the second year of Religious Education or Catholic Education. It is the policy of the Diocese of Camden that children receive their sacraments in the parish where the family is registered.
The Diocese of Camden requires two different modes of prepartion for the reception of a Sacrament.
-
Remote Preparation - Catechesis on a sacrament, invites schools or religious education programs to teach the elements of the sacraments in a classroom environment and should take place every year in the catechetical curriculum.
-
Immediate Preparation - Catechesis for a sacrament, takes the individual out of the classroom and immerses him/her into the life of the parish. This is where the child/young adult is formed into the faith life of the community. This part of the preparation happens in the home and in the parish. In order for this process to be effective, children and families must be invited to a separate preparation process that takes place within the parish setting, outside the classroom structure. Parents are expected to take an active role in their child's prepartion for First Communion.
